16th Century French Book of Hours

Jeff the Brewer AoA
My third official scroll for the East Kingdom (awarded 7/26/03). The scroll is based on a French Book of Hours from the early 16th century. It is the September folio caled Treading Grapes and Making Barrels. It is done on Bristol Board vellum with Winsor & Newton gouache. The border was adapted to fit a shield where the astrological symbol of the month went. I chose gothic bookhand as the letters matched closely. I had a hard time with the gothic bookhand - yes, I drew lines to follow - but it still isn't a great hand for me.

Obviously for a brewer.
