Sword With No Shield

Sword With No Shield
(Tune: A Horse With No Name by America)
By Temair ingen Muiredaich, Banbharun / Ann A. Straut 06/01/05

On the first day there were tourneys
I was thinking of entering a pas
There were Celts and Arabs and Brits and Kings
There was gilt and banners and rings
The first knight I fought was a guy with a bye
And with arms the size of clubs
The heat was hot and I started to fry
and the knight beat me to a nub

I've fought out at Pennsic with a sword and no shield
It felt good to get off of the field
In the melee you must remember your shield
'Cause there ain't no one who will let you yield
La, la ...

After two days in the Pennsic sun
My skin began to turn red
After three days of the Pennsic fun
My helmet barely fit my head
And the armies they charged and the blow I received
Made me lie down and cry ‘I’m dead’

I've fought out at Pennsic with a sword and no shield
It felt good to get off of the field
In the melee you must remember your shield
'Cause there ain't no one who will let you yield
La, la ...

After nine days of running into melees
My back hurt and my feet they bled
My helmet had dents and my body’s in pain
There was heat and cold and rain
Pennsic is a place where you can fight all day
And tell the story again at night
Around the fire the drums begin to play
And the fighters will tell of their might

You see I've fought out at Pennsic with a sword and no shield
It felt good to get off of the field
In the melee you must remember your shield
'Cause there ain't no one who will let you yield
La, la ...
