Swedish "Weaving"

I made two of these as "festive" dishtowels as a gift.

This is called huck embroidery, huck weaving or Swedish weaving and is a needlework that uses a running stitch to mimic weaving.  It is a traditional Nordic technique with roots in Swedish linens dating back to the 1600s.

It is traditionally done on huck toweling buck can also be done on other even-weave fabrics like monk's cloth.  The technique created geometric and linear designs on the fabric with the stitching primarily appearing on the front side.

I need to sew up the sides to keep the colored threads in place and trim them.
