Goldwork Class

This was a "Taster" class for embroidery through the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design. The design was traced with black micron pen (NEVER again!) onto a brushed cotton twill supplied in the kit and stitched with yellow sewing thread, passing thread and wire check and smooth purl. The stitches are: couching (plain and brick).

Getting the smooth purl to end at just the right place is a pain. Also not overstretching it is tricky. I wound up having just enough with the stretch I did. I am also not good at cutting the wire check purl into perfectly matching sized pieces (mine appear too large) and doing things randomly is not really in my wheel house...

Submitted to Keepers of Athena's Thimble virtual panel on 7/24/21 for Metal Thread.  Level achieved: Competence

First we cut the padding for the center of the fleur.

Next we couched smooth purl around it using brick stitch to outline the top (and bottom).

Bottom done.

Outlines done with the smooth purl

My less than random, too large chips are done.  Finished piece.  Ignore the micron pen marks.
