As long as I have been crocheting, I've never actually done one of these. I cut the towel in half instead of doing it folded in half like this video. I hemmed the cut edges down, approximated the 31 holes (as my towel was 16" across instead of 15"). Did the blanket stitch, but instead of hiding my ends inside the fold, I wove them into the crochet the end.
Material Used:
- Store bought hand towel
- Scissors
- Needle and sewing thread (to hem the top)
- Tapestry needle (for the blanket stitch at the top and weaving in ends)
- Red Heart Super Saver yarn in black - doubled (2 strands at once for both the blanket stitch and crocheting)
- Size H hook
Hem top of towel if edge is raw. Mine was because I cut the towel in 2 instead of just folding it over and doing it that way. My way gets 2 hand towels instead of just one double one.
Row 1 - chain 3, 29DC across (30sts - 29DC & 1 Ch3)
Rows 2 through 6 - Chain 3, DC, *DC2TOG, DC, DC* (23, 18, 14, 11, 9)
Rows 7 through 10 - Ch 3. 8DC (9 sts)
Row 11 - Ch3, 3DC, Ch1, skip, 4DC (8 sts, 1 ch - this is the buttonhole)
Row 12 - DC across (9 sts)
Sew 1.5" button on 4th row up from towel in the center. You can choose the 5th row or whatever, the loop has to be big enough to go over whatever you wil be putting it on and be pleasing to your eye.
