Needle Lace

I took a 2-day class called Early Modern Needle Lace (16th-17th centuries) presented by Grace Gimble.  The class was a quick overview with hands on following.  If I remember correctly, this form is called punto tagliato (she discussed all 3).  We used a thicker thread than she would normally use (for ease of teaching/learning).

Materials:

80/2 Linen Thread, sewing thread, pattern, mylar, even weave fabric, hoop and needles.

Paneled for Athena's Thimble at John Barleycorn on 9/3/2022 and recieved Competence in Needle Lace.

The linen was prepped with where the window would be.

We cut out 2 sides of each mini window and then pulled threads.

We had to be careful to make sure we left the center 4 threads.

Ready to have the outer edge done

End of class 1 homework - my window is ready

We were given the prepared pattern piece - Ppaper, covered with mylar with the couching stitches completed

The back of the pattern

Basting the pattern into the window

Starting the pattern.  It is worked in sections.

All the way around

The pattern is removed.  Scary part was clipping all those threads.

Held up to the light
