Viking Apron Embellishment Embroidery

So my first protégé is being elevated at Black Rose Ball and she asked that we all wear her colors (green and gold).  Since my colors are green and purple, I thought this would be easy.  I have nothing gold.  I don't look good in gold.  So I thought I'd make a "ribbon" for the top of my Viking apron with all of my protégé's devices since they all are gold and mine is silver.

I did it on purple because I had that color linen.  This too forever to outline and that monkey made me crazy.  My hands were so stiff at the end, I couldn't bring myself to fill in the gold and I liked the subtlety of it as it was.  I just used black DMC floss and everything is just outline stitch.

I decided to try the wash off stabilizer and bough it in sheets.  I put all the outlines into a word doc and printed it and it worked!  I then played with a number of outlines and the final version was chosen by my daughter who has been my protégé the longest and wanted to be over my heart.

The finished product

Since you could lift and put the adhesive stabilizer back down, I was able to move the badges around until we were happy.  Starting the last badge here.

This is my badge.  I did it first because it is familiar and easy for me.

The badge of Isabella d'Allaines le Comte.  She is the one being elevated.

The badge of Aurora of Dragonship Haven

The badge of Gráinne inghean Uí Néill

The badge of Sitt al-Gharb ha-niqret Khazariyya .  I hadn't been looking forward to this more complicated outline when I realized it looked nothing like her badge so I had to free-draw it.  It looks a little closer.

The finished outlines.
