Blackwork Needlebook

I am hosting a challenge at the St. Eligius Arts & Sciences competition this year called New To Me Embroidery.  The gist is to try a new form of embroidery, I don't care if the piece is finished, just try a new form.  As the prize, I decided to make a needlebook.  It is made using 28count Aida, quilting thread, Guterman S303 black silk thread, and a glass pony bead.  The alphabet was cribbed from the Halloween SAL I had just finished, a honeybee needlebook posted in the EGA Embroidery magazine by Clare Bradshaw, and a line of work I mashed together to fit on the front from random Pinterest patterns.  You can view my notes by clicking here.

Almost finished - needs the felt inside - but a good shot of the front and back embroidery.

I cut two thinking I was going to do more than one.  Maybe I'll come back to do a second one later.

Doing the outline

Just to show I did a lot of ripping and redoing on the words.

OK, I'm happy with this

Moving on to the next line

Got the words done.  Wasn't expecting that large gap.  Scope creep coming up

Finished embroidery

Sewing on the "backing"

Trimmed and ready to be turned

Turned.  Added a "button" to keep it closed.
