I learned to make these fibulae at Pennsic (2024) in a class taught by Baroness Gina Dragoni from Ealdormere. I decided to make a bunch for largesse.
I used some 16 gauge copper wire I had lying around (really, all it says is copper wire - no manufacturer) and some old purchased beads I had and never used. I think the 16 ga is actually too soft for this and can see why we used steel in the class. They came out all right, and I gifted them away.
